The lecture of combination with architecture and environment idea Edit Date:2015/12/08
On 3rd Dec 2015, in the afternoon, a lecture titled “Sustainable Design – the cooperation by application and creativity was held in company training room.
The lecturer Professor Li Jinchang is a design director and PHD tutor in University Calgary as well as an architect and city planner with awards and achievements. In 1975 he designed the first building heated by solar system and since then has been working at the design and research of health and sustainable architecture and city design for more than 40 years. Professor Li worked in several universities in Canada, Europe and Asia and tutored over 40 PhDs in architecture, engineering, management and environmental design. He is known as a cross-disciplinary expert therefore his lecture attracted many colleagues not only from architecture but also other specialties.
Firstly Professor Li used a series of statistics to demonstrate the crucial facts: the overspeed of world population development, serious environmental pollution and energy crisis. In addition he presented his opinion that the future would probably be “the past” if we don’t treasure the nature and resources. Then he led us to his research of solar system application with a case study presentation stating how to use the solar energy efficiently with low cost for a clean and healthy architecture environment. He also emphasized the “sustainable design” concept by presenting a series of social issues to improve architects’ sense of social responsibility.
Finally, as a ethnic Chinese architect, he emphasized the importance of creativity corresponding the current architecture design condition in China and he hoped that more and better green buildings with Chinese features could be independently designed by Chinese architect in the future.
In professor’s lecture, he described what the sustainable design is. That is the design which will adapt to the future change, be durable, be considerate of human health and safety, be less effective on global warming and be made of recycling material. At meantime, professor indicated the concepts of synergistic effect, creativity leading to sustainable design and he mentioned that the sight should be widen and lengthened instead of only on one point. During the case study presentation, he emitted his opinions of construction material multi-functional application and utilization of gained facility and natural conditions.
His opinions and concepts were well accepted by many of our colleagues and from them discussions about architecture design was held among the staff. Many of young architects were really interested in solar buildings and were desired to learn its technology and development.
“We are not intended to master any technology in only one lecture but our thinking can be wider.” said professor. “We need to learn something from history and design for the future” concluded by Mr. Song. These words cut off the staff’s entanglement about any technical problems and led them into a deeper thinking. This lecture brought us some new concepts and opinions and provided us with some new visual angles. It is believed that they will be gradually applied in work for company development of creativity.
